Parade of Homes Model 2017, Joseph Scott Homes
It was February, 2009, Jason and I just got married when the market took a turn for the worst. In the home industry, this is never good news. He had just lost his job at a large home building company that he had worked at since the age of 14. Jason’s tasks went from picking up garbage off of lots, cleaning out houses, cutting weeds in subdivisions on vacant lots, detailing homes, assisting in lot development, full time detailer (assisting project manager), to expediting commercial construction, then lost his job just as he finally reached his current goal at that time, Home Sales.
What seemed like bad news at the time, quickly became the most opportunistic time for Jason and I.
We were just barely hanging in there financially at this time. I was full time in my Parent’s greenhouse business, and that was an income that came to an end in June, since it is only seasonal. We were weighing out our options, while doing everything we could to stay afloat.
At this point, Jason’s Dad, Mike Lawrence, (who also worked at the same home building business at the time, for 20 years, started in Home Sales and worked his way up to General Manager), saw that his job was no longer secure with the way things were looking for the company. He talked with one of his colleagues and friend, Jim Fuchs, 12 years Chief Financial Officer. Together they decided it was in their best interest to take a risk and start their own home building company. So they teamed up, and as Jason got word of this from his dad on this development, he told him he wanted to do sales for them. They told him they couldn’t afford to pay him since they were already taking such a financial risk during this time in the bad economy. Jason said he didn’t care, and that he would do what it takes to just be commission based.
At this point, I had never seen Jason so excited and driven. There was a light in his eye, that I had never seen before. So when he told me about the opportunity, risk and all, I felt his excitement and enthusiasm.
I still had a lot of unanswered questions, thats when he said, “Trust me hun.” I said, “I trust you.”
8 years, hard work and many home awards later, you now know this Home Building Company as, Joseph Scott Homes.

Where did I come into the picture with designing and decorating, you ask?
Well, let’s keep a long story short for now because that’s a whole other story in it’s own.
Decorating has always been a passion of mince since I was an adolescent. As a kid, my decorating was always, what you may call, gaudy and over the top. Over the years, it just kept evolving. Luckily, by the time Jason and I were married, my decorating became more under control. I took a bachelor pad and turned it into a HOME. Which isn’t the easiest thing to do when you have no extra money. It wasn’t until we started designing our own home, that I realized I have a gift of visualization. When I design, it’s like a whole other me comes out of nowhere and takes over. I am in my glory when I have a set of plans in my hands.

Jason and I designed our home from scratch. This is a whole other story as well, because it is amazing how it was all created and put together by both of us. That’s the time we realized that we were an awesome team at executing a plan together, from design to selections. From Jason’s years of experience in the field of Home Building, he really helps me turn my ideas into reality and functionality. We entered our Home into the Racine/Kenosha Parade of Homes, it was 1 of 3 homes entered by Joseph Scott Homes that year. I was thrilled to find out that it won multiple awards. That’s when it happened, my little light build went off. It didn’t just light up, it shone bright and gets brighter and brighter every year! This is what I’m meant to do. Some bulbs light up quicker than others, but that’s because it takes the right opportunity to turn it on.
How does this all tie in to what I’m doing now?

Well, as a few years passed, Joseph Scott Homes gained a good reputation with their customers and the word of mouth kept spreading. As they got busier, in 2015, Jason offered that he and I would help with the parade model. Mike and Jim were open to it since their work load kept getting bigger. They already had a plan in place that year, so there were only a few things that they delegated to us that year. It was the design of the fireplace wall, and the master shower. Once the house was done, I went in and lightly decorated the main living space. I kept it very simple so you could see all the beautiful detail and quality in the home, since that is what Joseph Scott Homes is known for. The feed back was amazing on that home. People loved the simple decorating, fireplace wall, master shower (won Best Shower), and Foyer (Designed by Mike and Jim, won ‘Best Entry’)
Once I got a small dose of designing in that home, I needed another fix, which is the result of last years, Joseph Scott Homes 2016 Parade of Homes Model, ‘The Livingston’. Things only got busier for the company in 2016, and that’s how Jason and I got the opportunity to collaborate together, once again, on ‘The Livingston’. It’s official, I now have a Home Addiction.

Jason and I are going on Year 2 of designing and creating the Joseph Scott Homes, Parade of Homes Model. What makes these homes a success, is the process at which we go through to create them. We decided that this year we would document everything we do to get the job done. You will see that it isn’t just Jason and I that play a role. It’s the whole company! Everyone plays a role in the Joseph Scott Homes Model. See for yourself in this documentary from Start to Finish. This documentary will continue to be updated through the 2017 Racine/Kenosha Parade of Homes.
